The scientific investigations of Iran’s rangelands started in 1339, the research activities of Iran’s rangelands first started in Hamand Absard research stations in the semi-steppe rangelands and Nodhak Qazvin and Rudshor in the steppe rangelands, and after 1360 it was developed in the whole country.
The dependence of the country’s development programs on the basic natural resources of production (water, soil and plants) in various fields, including agriculture, industry, services, etc., in direct and indirect ways, is clear. In Iran, a surface equivalent to 86 million hectares of its size, i.e. more than 52% of the country’s area, is covered by pastures.
In proportion to the extent of pastures, climate diversity, diversity of exploitation systems and diversity of livestock breeds using pastures, doing any efficient action requires having a targeted program to increase the productivity of resources, not only necessary but also inevitable. Therefore, the pasture research department prepared and compiled its strategic plan to deal with this issue and made it the basis of its operational plans. In this program, in addition to stating and explaining the strategies and solutions of the work organization based on ecological principles, it is foreseen in a way that covers all the ecological areas of the country.
