The activities of FRD have resulted in the publication of numerous titles, including final reports of research projects, scientific articles at both national and international publications, promotional pieces, handbooks, and technical manuals. Highlighted below are the key research activities within the FRD that have culminated in the publication of specialized books:

  • Research on the adaptability of both native and non-native forest species in different regions of the country, leading to the publication of 10 books.
  • Multidisciplinary studies in different ecological zones, resulting in three books for the Hyrcanian and Zagros regions.
  • Research on the identification and methods for restoration of Zagros forests through several research projects, resulting in five books.
  • Recognition of habitats and investigation of methods for restoration of Juniper forests in researched through several projects, resulting in two books.
  • Survey, zoning, and identification the most suitable areas and methods for restoration of mangrove forests along the northern coasts of Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman through three national projects, resulting in a three-volume book series.
  • Physiological studies of different forest species in Iran through several research projects, resulting in a book.

Furthermore, other important research projects conducted by the FRD researchers are available in the form of final reports and scientific and promotional articles. The most notable research achievements include:

  • Determining the typology of forest stands and management strategies for even and uneven-age high forests of northern Iran
  • Studying the ecological demands and autecological of important forest species in Iran
  • Determining the fertilizer requirements of different forest species in forest nurseries of northern Iran
  • Investigating the causes of decline of Zagros oak forests and its coping strategies,
  • Identifying and propagating symbiotic mycorrhizal fungi and the production of mycorrhizal forest seedlings
  • Zoning Hyrcanian forests using satellite imagery
  • Identifying and propagating ancient Iranian trees and developing an atlas of oldest Iranian trees
  • Determining appropriate water storage methods for rainfed forestation in arid and semi-arid regions of Iran
  • Determining suitable forest species for reforestation and afforestation using unconventional water resources
  • Assessment and monitoring of different forest zones of Iran
  • Natural hazards assessment and climate change detection in different forest zones of Iran

The Iranian Journal of Forest and Poplar Research is another important outputs of the FDR. Published since 1998, the journal was initially named” Forest and Poplar Research” and was later named to its current title starting from issue number 4. It is currently published quarterly and aims to publish new research findings in the fields of Iranian forests poplars, and other fast-growing species. Articles are published in Persian with English abstracts, and references are listed in English.

The FRD has organized one international conference and three national conferences, and the results have been published in four proceedings:

– Proceedings of the 7th International Beech Seminar

  • Proceeding of the National Conference of Future of Iranian Forests
  • Proceedings of the 2nd National Conference of Beneh or Green Pearl (Pistachio) (2 volumes)
